Huell Howser!

17 February 2010

If you grew up in California there is a really good chance you have seen the show California’s Gold.  I grew up watching the host Huell Howser visit many sites throughout the state.  Sometimes the locations were not the most entertaining  but his point of view most definitely was.  No matter what, everything he sees is with an eye of optimism and amazement.(watch one of his clips and you’ll see what I mean)  Well Huell visited the L.A river on an episode and I made a painting of what I thought his perspective  would be looking around.  The painting is called “The right side of Huell Howser’s brain” and is in the Uglar Book, and now featured on Huell Howser’s website.  So check it out at this link Calgold.  I want to thank Mr. Howser for having an amazing outlook on things and for supporting the painting.  Peace to you all.

In-Progress

16 February 2010

dia de los muertos First I want to thank everybody who attended the Uglar opening reception, and for those not able the exhibition will still be up until July.  It was really overwhelming to see the people who came out to support original art and fresh ideas.  I have now put up the in-progress section and will try to update it as best as possible.  If you do not see more of certain types of art that you want to see, make sure you send me a comment.  As always peace to all.

Uglar museum show!!!

12 February 2010

So the time has come and the big show is upon us with the opening reception being from 7-9pm February 13 @ the Pasadena Museum of California Art.  A lot of talented people from different branches of art have come together with their time and great energy producing one of the best shows I have seen and have been lucky to be a part of.  I highly recommend the opening reception if not catch any of the panel discussions, demonstrations, or just visit the show which will be up until July.  Also here is the link for more information and a review HIFRUCTOSE.  The painting I put up is titled “The right side of Huell Howser’s brain” and is the one I did for the book which will be up at the show along with other very amazing pieces of art.

hannya Going to try to put more in progress stuff up from time to time.  This one is on Charlie Loko from Inklab in Minnesota and will eventually turn into a full front panel with more outlining done this year.  Charlie will be visiting my studio frequently so check out his tattoo work in my links and get something.  The Uglar book is also for sale at  amazon, so if you do not have a copy buy it so you can get it signed by the artists at the opening.  If you do have a copy leave a comment.

As always check back I will be posting more frequently and thanks for visiting.

Very happy to announce that Kara daughter to Mark LaMaster of the Mausoleum family was born healthy and ready to take on the world.  We wish them all the best and look forward to seeing her grow.  For those planning to attend the museum exhibition for Uglar Book please note that the reception is on February 13.  There is also a world premiere on February 7 in Santa Barbara for a new documentary called “When the Dragon Swallowed the Sun”, which is about a young Tibetan king who is expected to continue a 1400-year old lineage.  (for information look up Los Angeles Friends of Tibet).  Check back soon as the progress of the Uglar show will be posted.
